Faculty Spotlight – Thura Mack, PhD

As Assistant Dean of the Libraries’ Community Services and Engagement department and chair for the Libraries’ Belonging and Engagement Committee, Thura Mack leads the Libraries’ outreach to schools in Knoxville and the surrounding community. Along with teaching information literacy and library research skills to college-bound students, Mack also works on several outreach projects. She was the 2021-2022 Macebearer for the University and was only the second African-American to receive this honor. She is currently co-authoring an upcoming book chapter on empathy in librarianship, and working with Algood Middle School in Cookeville, Tennessee to develop STEM literacy and innovation.
