Faculty Spotlight – Lisa King, PhD

Dr. Lisa King serves as faculty Co-Sponsor for UT’s Native American Student Association and Associate Professor. Her research and teachings include cultural rhetorics with an emphasis in contemporary Native American and Indigenous rhetorics. Her work explores the practices that surround and produce public representations of Indigenous people within the United States in museums. King works closely with UT’s McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture. She soon will be guiding a Native American report ration exhibit showcasing the importance of the law as an expression of sovereignty and human rights for Native communities in the United States. Her publications include Legible Sovereignties: Rhetoric, Representations, and Native American Museums and Survivance, Sovereignty, and Story: Teaching American Indian Rhetorics.
