What is a Flagship Community?
Flagship Communities are the neighborhoods and communities surrounding designated K-8 schools in Tennessee supported by the Office of Flagship Communities. The Flagship Community schools feed directly into one or more of the designated Flagship High Schools. By engaging students at these select Elementary and Middle Schools, our office seeks to ensure that students in these communities have a clear pipeline of educational support.
What is a Flagship High School?
Flagship High Schools are select high schools supported by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. These schools represent UT’s commitment to making higher education more affordable and accessible through the Flagship Scholarship Program. With the addition of 14 high schools in 2024, there are now a total of 52 Flagship high schools in Tennessee. Learn more about the Flagship Scholarship and designated high schools here.
How are Flagship High Schools Selected?
Currently, 52 Flagship high schools across Tennessee have been selected based on state economic factors. These schools represent opportunities where the University of Tennessee can make the greatest impact in expanding college access for students as the flagship, land-grant institution. Schools are evaluated with state-provided metrics every 3 years to assess their eligibility.
