Commission for Black Communities
The Commission for Black Communities (CFBC) is dedicated to the support and retention of all Black and African American students, staff, and faculty on campus. The commission works in collaboration with DAE and other campus partners to recognize and celebrate the efforts of Volunteers that have demonstrated leadership in creating opportunities for Black communities on campus.
The CFBC participates in various events on campus and in the Knoxville community. Each year, the Commission recognizes individuals for their contributions in promoting access and engagement for Black Volunteers, while also supporting educational opportunities around Black issues.
Commission for Disability
The Commission for Disability (CFD) champions accessibility for students, staff, faculty, and visitors with disabilities across campus. Through education, advocacy, and collaboration, the CFD works to ensure all members of our campus community understand and support disability-related needs.
The Commission creates platforms for individuals to share their experiences with disability both on campus and in the Knoxville community. Each year, the CFD recognizes those who champion for support and/or recognition of those with disabilities.
Council for Access and Engagement
The Council for Access and Engagement (CAE) serves as a leadership advisory group to the DAE regarding campus culture, access and engagement. They assist with campus-wide initiatives sponsored by the Division aimed at creating a welcoming and supportive campus climate.
The CAE recognizes departments or units on campus that have demonstrated outstanding leadership, and provides ongoing support and professional development opportunities for commission leadership.
The Commission for the Latin American Volunteer Experience
The Commission for the Latin American Volunteer Experience (CLAVE) seeks to enhance community-building for Latin American and Hispanic people on campus while providing opportunities for the campus to learn more about this community’s rich history and experience. The Commission collaborates with DAE and the campus community to enhance the Volunteer experience for Latin American and Hispanic faculty, staff, and students through the support of educational and professional opportunities, and community-building efforts.
Commission for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
The Commission for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (CFAAPI) is committed to the advocacy, retention, and advancement of AAPI staff, students, and faculty on campus. The CFAAPI aims to foster a community where AAPI members are celebrated and appreciated for their contributions to the UTK community. To this end, the Commission works in collaboration with DAE and other commissions to formally recognize individuals who demonstrate leadership and create opportunities for the AAPI community.
Commission for Women
The Commission for Women (CFW) is committed to the support and retention of women at the University of Tennessee. To this end, the CFW collaborates with other commissions, DAE, and other campus partners to promote women’s leadership and professional development through mentorship, education, and networking opportunities. Each year, the CFW recognizes students, staff, faculty, and initiatives that support women on campus, while providing educational opportunities about issues that women face.
The Commission for LGBT+ Communities
The Commission for LGBT+ Communities (CFLGBT) is committed to improving the experiences of the LGBT+ communities on campus. To this end, the commission provides community-building opportunities to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for all. In addition, the CFLGBT formally recognizes excellent leadership in promoting access and engagement for members of the LGBT+ community, and collaborates with DAE and other campus partners to create educational opportunities.
