Faculty Spotlight: Dawn Duke, PhD

Dr. Dawn Duke, Professor of Spanish and Portuguese, celebrates her single-authored publication that was released at the beginning of 2023, Mayaya Rising: Black Female Icons in Latin American and Caribbean Literature and Culture. The book explores and celebrates the work of writers who intentionally center powerful female cultural archetypes. This is her fourth book which is preceded by Literary Passion, Ideological Commitment: Toward a Legacy of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian Women Writers (Bucknell)A Escritora Afro-Brasileira: Ativismo e Arte Literária, and Celluloid Chains: Slavery in the Americas through Film (as co-editor). She has also published more than twenty-five articles and chapters.
